Committed to the Fair Administration of Justice
Every day, judges confront issues of crime, family violence, and complex civil disputes. Once you elect a judge truly qualified to address these serious matters, it’s important to keep them working for you.
Before you elected Lisa Gonzales as judge, she built a strong record as an attorney who prosecuted crime, protected consumers, and earned the trust of the community. She’s also a wife, a mother, and a native of Nueces County deeply committed to the fair administration of justice and the safety of our families.
A Lifetime of Public Service
Born and raised in Nueces County by her parents, Manuel and Anna, Lisa graduated from Mary Carroll High School, where she was a two-time state finalist in both track and cross-country. Continuing her education at Yale University, she earned her B.A., with honors, in Economics and Political Science, and competed in cross-country as a student-athlete. After graduation, Lisa returned home to pursue her law degree at the University of Texas at Austin, completing it in 1987.

Since law school, Lisa has devoted her career to public service. She started her legal career working as an Assistant Texas Attorney General in the Insurance, Banking and Securities Section protecting Texas consumers. As a Nueces County prosecutor, she represented the State and victims of crime in justice, county and district court. Elected as Justice of the Peace, in 1996, she worked diligently to reduce a significant case backlog. Since being elected as Judge of County Court at Law No. 2 in 2002, she has presided over thousands of cases—including more than 600 jury trials—covering civil, criminal, probate, and mental health matters.
